5 days old

Today was a really long day for our Emilee.. Shortly after her first feeding this morning, she had lots of labs drawn and then at about 10 o'clock this morning she went for an echocardiogram. After that, the nurses said that she didn't sleep hardly at all for the rest of the day. She apparently was really fussy all day long for them and they had to take turns holding her. She's going to be really spoiled, but that's ok. Her evening feeding is suppose to be at 5:30, but at about 5 her nurse called the room and said that she was being really fussy and they couldn't get her to calm down, so would Dad come and hold her for a little while. Well, Dad wasn't here because he had to go to Station 31 to get all the insurance paperwork filled out, so even though they wanted me to rest, I went anyways. Ask me to come and hold her outside of the thirty minutes that we get.... HECK YES!!! So I got to just sit and rock with her for about 20 minutes, then Dad joined me in the nursery. We went ahead and did her feeding and then Dad got to hold her some more before we had to put her back in her crib.

The Neonatologist made some changes to her feeding today. She was getting to nurse one feeding and then a bottle the next, switching back and forth at each feeding, but then also getting all of her food through her tube. But today he changed all of that. Now she only gets half of what she was getting in her tube and the rest she is relying on me. Due to her jaw and tongue placement this makes her Mom extremely nervous.

The whole reason that we were using the special bottle was because with where her tongue is located she isn't able to nurse. And now, she has to.... Since she is breast feeding we really don't know just how much she is getting, so we'll have to wait and see. They only weigh her once a day and that's at the beginning of the night shift. When they weighed her today, she had lost an ounce from last night, so we'll have to wait until tomorrow night to see how she is doing. Hopefully she's not having to go hungry. I hear nothing but awesome things about her doctor, so hopefully this will work.

I think that Dad is just as tired as Emilee after her long day.

Just before her 8:30 night feeding is when the new nurse does her assesment and then she gets her bed blankets changed, gets a bath, and then gets new clothes. Granny Katie went shopping this afternoon and got some outfits for up here. We aren't sure if they are going to make it back to her, so she stopped and got some that don't matter if they got lost. They said that if the blankets have her name on it they should come back, so Granny Katie spent her afternoon embroidering Emilee's name and ID number on the blankets. Hopefully they will make it back to her after they get washed.

We got to give her the bath today.

After she got done eating, we snapped a few pictures for the day.
Here she is in one of her new outfits... she a chick-a-dee tonight

For some reason she really likes to wrinkle her forehead.... I keep telling her that she's going to have wrinkles by age ten if she keeps doing that. But we don't mind if she wants to be bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Her new bed blankets with her own blankets. As close to home as we can get her for now.
