Another Long Day in Houston

Emilee had appointments at TCH yesterday.

She actually played in her carseat for a little while and then fell asleep about 30 minutes before we got there so we had to wake her up to get out of the car.

  All in all she saw four different doctors.  We started out with the Craniofacial team for an appointment with the Surgeon and the Speech Therapist. That appointment went well and we have a surgery date for her palate repair. It's going to be the first week of June. Of course we completely forgot to ask about being off the bottle and all that fun stuff so I'll have to call their office back. We also had him look at the small cyst like thing under her tongue and he said that they would investigate it during the surgery.  Hopefully it won't cause any other problems before then.

After these two appointments we then ate lunch and had to find our way to the next one.  The theory that I had was we would only park once and then walk to the other building.  I didn't know it was going to be raining for this little walk but that's ok.  So we bundled Emilee up and out we went.  Somewhere during the three block walk to the Smith Tower she fell asleep so the wait for the hearing test and ENT appointment went quietly.

We then had to wake her up for the hearing test.  The first part of the hearing test was for pressure.  She failed. =)  There is suppose to be a peak at atmospheric pressure and her's was just a flat line.  He said that this was typical of a child that had fluid on their ears.  Then he did the hearing test where we sat in a sound proof room and he emitted sounds out of speakers at different levels to see when she heard it and turned to look at it. After that was over he said that she had about a 30 - 40 percent hearing loss but that it was again typical of fluid build up. We expected this to happen because of her palate.  Once we mentioned the cleft palate he actually gave us an explanation for it.  He said that the part of the ear that equalized the ear drum is attached to the palate.  So... since she has the cleft when her ears try and equalize that 'value' can't be opened because that attachment part it missing. Which actually makes sense.

After the hearing test we then got to see the ENT.  He of course wanted to look in her ears and she of course did not want him to look.  So after holding her down and he cleared some wax out and then said that she had heavy fluid in there we discussed the tubes.  He's ok with waiting until she has her palate repaired and that there wasn't a sense in taking her to the operating room twice if we didn't have to. Which of course I am completely ok with that as well. =)

I guess that the day went well.  I'm glad that we were able to get more than one appointment done it one day.

Teddy Bear and ECI

Emilee had her Teddy Bear appointment yesterday at the hospital. Everything went well. She had an OT evaluation before seeing Dr. McGowan. She passed everything with flying colors. She doesn't have to go back there until she is a year old!

We also had an appointment with our case worker for ECI. We were running a litte behind because of the Teddy Bear appointment so when I called her, she was going to be at the house before us. She said that she would stop at Sonic for a bite to eat and give us a little more time and of course we were going to run by there for a drink, so we just met her at Sonic for our appointment. Emilee was out cold in the car so we sat at the outside tables and talked and let Emilee sleep. It worked out perfect.

The Army Crawl

Little Miss Thing is getting better and better each day at getting where she wants to go. She can move quite quickly with her little army crawl. It's usually in the direction of a dog toy, but she's getting good.

It's only a matter of time before the chaos begins.

Toofies

So... Emilee has been working on not one tooth, but a second one is coming is also.  I noticed the second bottom tooth coming in on Thursday when she was getting her blood drawn.  Her whole face turned red because she was so mad except where her new teeth are.  That area stayed white.  AND since I was so close to her face while she was screaming I was able to see it really well.

You can see her first tooth in the picture below.  It kind of looks like a reflection... BUT IT'S NOT.. IT'S HER FIRST TOOTH! (You should be able to click on the picture to make it bigger if you can't see it) It's been so hard to get a picture of it because she loves to stick her tongue out, so everytime we play with her out come the tongue and covers up the tooth. But that's ok.  We waited so long for her to be able to stick her tongue out that if she want's to stick it out at everyone we will gladly let her.

Yummy Yummy..

While we were out grocery shopping on Sunday we bought Emilee something new to try. It's one of those 'biter biscuits'.  She seemed to really like it. Of course it was everywhere, but it was fun to watch her try something new.
